"Truly a masterpiece!"
In November 2011 at our 70th Anniversary Exhibition, the Governor of Queensland, Her Excellency, Ms Penelope Wensley AC,
and her husband, Mr Stuart McCosker, commissioned our member, Regina Lee from Mt Tamborine, to create a 4 ' high bronze
sculpture of a standing nude. What a magnificent piece of work!
Congratulations to Gina not only for the work itself but for the tremendous amount of time, energy, skill, sensitivity and
perseverance that goes into producing such a work.

HDGA Design for inclusion on new BVAC Hub Sign
A big thank you and congratulations to Derek Johnson for designing the HDGA contribution to BVAC's signage on their new hub at Weller's Hill Brisbane. Each contributing group was asked to design a letter that reflects what it does and the materials it uses. The contributed designs will be digitised and reproduced commercially in metal for display outside the BVAC Hub. Derek's creation, (see right) aptly depicts the variety of art work produced by the HDGA. |
Member, Christine Groh won the inaugural Arts Alive Emerging Printmaker Award at the 2015 Ipswich Art Awards. Congratulations Christine! For further information, including details of her exhibition, please download the document on the right.

TRIBUTES FOR TWO OF OUR MEMBERS
Two much loved and long standing members of the HDGA Group were paid tribute at the recent opening night of the HDGA's Annual Exhibition.
Audrey Gibbs and Charles Ludlow have both recently passed away and will be missed greatly by the community in general and by the HDGA, especially by those members who knew them well.

AUDREY GIBBS
Audrey was a member of the Group for over 30 years and was much loved by all who knew her. Those who attended the Opening night for the Annual Exhibition were very appreciative of her son for sharing some wonderful insights into his mother's life. He also attributed Audrey with his ability to thoroughly enjoy art due to being able to accompany her to many exhibitions and art events as a child.
Audrey's fundamental talent was to be able to draw. She cultivated this talent from a very young age and later, after raising a large family, developed those talents further, becoming a passionate and dedicated artist. Throughout her long artistic career Audrey went through several phases when her work was influenced by different painters of the late nineteenth and early 20th century. Some of those painters were: Impressionists- Claude Monet and Edouarde Monet, Mary Cassatt, Edgar Degas; Art Nouveau artists Gustav Klimt, Aubrey Beardsley, Egon Schiele and Walter Sickert; Post Impressionists- Edouard Vuillard and Pierre Bonnard, followed by Gwen John whose mastery of tonal values made her probably one of Audrey's strongest influences. Audrey won many prizes in both state and national competitions and was sought after for her portraits and scenes of daily life but was self effacing when it came to her work. She also conducted several solo exhibitions and opened her final exhibition at the RQAS gallery shortly before she passed away. The photos at left are of Audrey at her last opening night. |

Love your calling with passion. It is the meaning of life. – Rodin
A born artist, Dixie Lambert realised early in life that art would always dominate and enrich his life. Pursuing his artistic passion, Dixie studied under some of the best, including Alan Sumner at the National Art Gallery School and Hatton Beck before becoming a lecturer himself at Seven Hills College of Art and QIT/QUT. A master of the mediums, Dixie has created work in watercolour, acrylics, oils, sculpture, bronze, wood carving, stone and pottery. Dixie’s work is represented in Australia, U.S.A., Canada, U.K., New Zealand, Mexico and Spain.
“I see my art as a medium for uplifting the spirit and bringing light. The love and passion I put into each piece is what I want others to participate in. Art for the artist and the viewer is a journey, it can challenge us and take us to new realities.”
